Abstract

The aim of the following paper is to identify aspects of the Austrian welfarestate model, which, through its social-economic repercussions, generates a 'poverty trap' that negatively affects the highly heterogenous social group of old women the most. The approach is one of three steps: Firstly, the implications of the term 'old age' are discussed; Secondly, the of the Austrian welsfare state is outlined; Thirdly, the impact of the latter on society is discussed within three dimensions: family, labour market and the system of social security.
